Program Description

Swimming pools open to the public, such as the pools at hotels, apartments, or city facilities are permitted through and inspected by the Florida Department of Health in Columbia County. Inspections consist of sanitation and safety checks around the pool and its equipment. Water is tested for proper levels of sanitizing and balancing chemicals, such as chlorine levels and pH.

These inspections are conducted twice a year at the minimum. Troubleshooting pool equipment and chemical mismanagement are reasons for swimming pools to be inspected more than twice, especially during the summer months.

Bathing places at state parks, such as at the Ichetucknee Springs State Park, are inspected and the water sampled for contaminants twice a year.
