Women's Health

Florida Department of Health in Columbia County

Program Description

Women's Health Services include yearly examinations, Pap smears and breast examinations, infection identification and treatment, and family planning.

Family Planning includes pregnancy tests, education and community resources. This helps families and individuals plan family size as a way to improve the health of their families. Our staff offers information on abstinence and natural family planning methods as well as providing Depo-Provera, birth control pills, contraceptive film, condoms, and diaphragms. Staff members explain each method's benefits and drawbacks in order for our clients to make informed decisions.

Juanita McSpadden is the ARNP for Women's Health and is responsible for Family Planning. She assists those people who are interested in a birth control method and those women under age 40 who wish to have yearly breast and pelvic examinations. She can be reached at (386) 758-1068 for more information.

Pap smears and breast examinations are done for all women over 40 through the Primary Care Clinic. Women assigned to the Florida Department of Health in Columbia County by Medipass or Medicaid or women who have chosen Dr. Aleem Malik for their physician are eligible for these yearly exams. Otherwise, women not eligible for these services will be referred to their private physician. The Primary Care Clinic may also be reached at (386) 758-1068.
